This book is a collection of vocabulary, idioms and terminology relating to the sea, collected from the Donegal coast by informants from Teesside to Inishowen and further afield, with explanations of the terms in English. It is a valuable treasure trove of words and expressions, taken from the language of the people.

The book is the result of many years of work collecting nautical idioms and terms from fishermen and seafarers. The book contains a wealth of information not found anywhere else and provides accurate explanations of nautical terms. The headings are arranged alphabetically and there are up to 1000 headings in the entire book. Terms related to maritime matters are explained, including sailing, boats, weather, geology, the sea, fishing, fish, seafood and much more.

All the terms have been taken from fishermen and people who were closely associated with the sea; native speakers who had spent their lives at sea. The book will suit general readers, Irish language students, those interested in improving their Irish and especially those interested in boating, sailing and maritime subjects.
