Ó Muireagáin creates surreal worlds for his characters to inhabit in these stories.  Distopian stories in barbaric cruel places, but always with enough realism that we recognise the truth of these worlds. These shifts in perspective allow us to see more clearly the injustices and inequity of our own world.
